The NVIDIA–National Tsing Hua University Joint Innovation Center was established to create a long-term platform for industry–academia collaboration in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and related emerging technologies. By bringing together NVIDIA’s capabilities in GPU computing, AI software and hardware, development tools, and technical expertise with NTHU’s broad and interdisciplinary research strengths, the Center seeks to accelerate forward-looking research and expand the practical impact of advanced computing technologies. Its role is not limited to supporting individual projects; it also provides an institutional framework through which both parties can develop research teams, identify promising topics, conduct joint research and development, and respond flexibly to rapidly changing international technological competition.
The Center’s activities are designed around three connected missions: collaborative research, talent development, and academic engagement. It organizes research teams in areas aligned with NVIDIA’s core technologies and future directions, supports jointly selected research projects, and promotes academic activities, training, recruitment, and exchanges related to the Center. The establishment plan also identifies a broad range of expected outcomes, including academic publications, patents, technology transfer, seminars, special lectures, student competitions, internships, and the cultivation of master’s and doctoral students. Through these efforts, the Center aims to strengthen both NTHU’s research capacity and the wider innovation ecosystem, while helping promising ideas move from academic exploration toward demonstrable technological results.
The Center’s successive calls for proposals show how this mission has been translated into concrete research opportunities. The 2024 program emphasized high-performance computing applications in generative AI, digital twins, large language models, physics-informed neural networks, quantum simulation, drug discovery, healthcare, and NVIDIA SDK-based research. The 2025 call continued this direction while highlighting the need for proposals to explain how NVIDIA technologies would accelerate the proposed work. The latest call further broadens the scope to include Physical AI, embodied intelligence, robotics, Sim-to-Real training, Data Processing Unit applications, and other large-scale computing topics. Across these calls, the Center has consistently encouraged projects that combine strong scientific or engineering value with clear computing requirements, feasible research plans, and meaningful potential impact.
A defining feature of the Center is the connection between research ideas and practical technical support. Selected teams may receive access to NVIDIA computing resources, guidance from NVIDIA Solutions Architects, and technical assistance during the project period. This support helps researchers test ambitious concepts, shorten development cycles, and make more effective use of GPU computing and NVIDIA SDKs. At the same time, participating teams are expected to share progress, submit final reports, and acknowledge the Center and NVIDIA’s contributions when research results are published. These responsibilities are intended to strengthen accountability, encourage knowledge exchange, and ensure that lessons from individual projects can contribute to the Center’s longer-term development.
Through this integrated model, the NVIDIA–NTHU Joint Innovation Center serves as a bridge between leading industrial technology and NTHU’s academic creativity. It is intended to foster sustained collaboration, strengthen Taiwan’s capacity in AI and high-performance computing, cultivate the next generation of researchers, and generate research outcomes with both scholarly significance and real-world relevance.
